“Spread the knowledge, not the virus”

HIV/AIDS is influenced by a number of socio-economic elements. Mainstreaming HIV is an effective approach towards a multi-sectoral response.

Mainstreaming & Partnership - Getting meaningful involvement of non-health sector (Public, Private sector etc.) to reach out to the various segments of population plays vital role in reducing vulnerability of infected/ affected People Living with HIV/AIDS (PLHA) & High Risk Groups (HRGs). In Mumbai, MDACS is closely working with various departments viz. Mumbai Port Trust, BEST, IOCL, HPCL, BPCL, Police dept., etc. to roll out the MoUs signed with several Ministries by NACO.

Greater involvement of People Living with HIV/AIDS (GIPA) is one of the strategies to promote behavior change.

Social Protection - Advocacy efforts are focused for facilitations access of needy & eligible PLHA and HRGs to avail social protection schemes. Details of the schemes are as under :

 

Schemes Criteria & Benefits
Sanjay Gandhi Niradhar Yojana Sanjay Gandhi Niradhar Yojana:

PLHIV between 18-65 age group
Resident of Maharashtra for last 15 years
Income below 21000/- per annum.
Chronic illness certificate from government hospital
In case of orphan children, death certificates of parents.

Indira Gandhi Widow Pension Yojna:

Widow of AIDS deceased - death certificate of husband
Between age group of 40 to 65
Resident of Maharashtra for last 15 years
Income below 21000/- per annum
Chronic illness certificate from government hospital

Each beneficiary will get Rs. 600/- per month & Family with more than one beneficiary will get Rs. 900/- per month.
Bal Sangopan Yojana (BSY) A substitute family care for a temporary period to children infected & affected by AIDS whose parents are not able to take care of their children due to illness/ death/ separation/ desertion of one parent or any other crisis. A grant of Rs. 425 per child per month is given by the govt., to the foster parent(s)
Janani Suraksha Yojana All pregnant women delivering in government health centres gets benefits of Rs. 1000/- through Health care institutions.
National Food Security Scheme Anntoday Anna Yojana: Priority given to PLHIV having annual income up to Rs. 15,000/-. Beneficiary gets 35 Kg food grains i.e. Wheat @ Rs. 2.00 p. Kg+ Rice @ Rs. 3.00 p. Kg.

Priority House Hold: Ration cards are distributed to eligible PLHIV families having annual income up to Rs. 59,000/- Under this scheme, each family member gets 5 Kgs food grain @ Rs. 2.00 p. Kg+ Rice @ Rs. 3.00 p.Kg
Integrated Child Development Scheme Double nutrition for pre-school Children Living  with HIV up to 06 years  through Anganwadi.
Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Jan Arogya Yojana It’s a health insurance scheme for BPL & APL families excluding white card holders. PLHIVs can take benefit for treating opportunistic infections.

The scheme provides coverage for meeting all expenses relating to hospitalisation of beneficiaries up to Rs. 1,50,000 per family per year in any of the empanelled hospital on cashless basis through valid orange Ration Card. This can be availed by one individual or collectively by all members of the family.
